Adamson completes UAAP Softball 6-PEAT
SIX TIMES! The Adamson Lady Falcons complete their 6-peat in UAAP Softball

Fifth year short stop Queeny Sabobo stepped up to the plate at the bottom of the third with Adamson University trailing the University of Sto. Tomas two runs to none. Staring her down from the pitcher’s mound was fellow National Team member Mallows Garde. As Garde threw the pitch, Sabobo planted her feet firmly to the ground before striking the ball and sending it towards left field…

…and over the fence.

That home run instantly tied the game up at two and ultimately gave the Lady Falcons the momentum it needed to win the game. The final score was 5-3 in favor of Adamson University, who won Game 3 of the UAAP Season 78 Softball Finals on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the historic Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium in Manila.

Moments after Sabobo’s home run, former two-time MVP Annalie Benjamen unleashed her own home run to increase the lead of the Lady Falcons. At the end of the third inning, Adamson led the Tigresses, 4-2.

Adamson would add another run at in the fifth inning, courtesy of another home run by Sabobo. That was the fifth home run of the season for Sabobo, the most for any player in the league this tournament. UST would score another run in the inning that followed via a 1 RBI single from Tanya Belaňo. However, there would be no dramatic comeback this time around as during the 7th inning, Layca Basa caught the final flyball of the game by Celestine Palma, despite colliding with Sabobo at left field.

With the win, the Lady Falcons extended their reign as champions to six years. Sabobo and Benjamen were named co-Finals MVP’s. Aside from Sabobo and Benjamen, Krisna Paguican will also be graduating for Adamson University.

“Sinabi ko sa mga players ko, ‘It’s not about the skills, but the heart.’ Yun ang nagbigay ng panalo sa amin ngayong season,” said Ana Santiago, who won her ninth championship as the Head Coach of the Lady Falcons.
