National University hopes to keep its flickering Final Four bid alive against a team with a similar mission.
National University and Far Eastern University collide in a crucial match to bolster their Final Four hopes on Saturday in the 78th UAAP women's volleyball tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Tied at fourth to sixth place with 5-5 win-loss records with University of Sto. Tomas, the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Tamaraws need to win as many games as they can in their remaining four assignments to occupy a semifinals seat.
Both teams are expected to give their A-game when they take the floor in the 2:00 p.m. match.
The duel will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
Coming off a horrible stretch where it lost four of five, NU got a needed shot in the arm following a 25-15, 25-12, 25-11 thumping of winless University of the East last Sunday.
NU will bank on the trio of Jaja Santiago, Mya Pablo and Jorelle Singh to get on a good position for a higher seeding in the semifinals after Lady Bulldogs head coach Roger Gorayeb accepted the fact that getting a twoce-to-beat advantage at this points is far-fetched with defending champion Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle sharing the top spot with 8-2 cards.
“Huwag naman, kung matalo kami ng FEU naku eh ‘di fourth place na lang ‘yung hinahabol namin, nagbabakbakan na sila doon (sa taas),” Gorayeb said. “Ayoko namang malagay sa ganoon kasi at this point in time rume-recover kami from sa masamang mga laro namin noong nakaraan. Another loss will not help us. Ayokong mapunta sa ganoong sitawasyon.”
On the other hand, FEU hopes to regain its winning ways after a 17-25, 10-25, 21-25 loss to Ateneo last Sunday, putting a dent on its Final Four drive.
