National University seeks to boost its semifinals spot bid and avenge its first round loss to University of the Philippines.
National University hopes to recover from a previous setback as the Bulldogs face off with University of the Philippines on Sunday in the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Coming off a four-set loss to the defending champion Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles in a rematch of last year’s finals, the Bulldog are looking to bounce back mightily in the 10:00 a.m. showdown with the Fighting Maroons to keep their hold of the third spot heading into the crucial stretch of the race for the remaining three Final Four seats.
The duel will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
NU is on solo third with a 6-4 win-loss record but holds only a one-game lead over UP and Far Eastern University, who are tied at 5-5 slates.
Ateneo de Manila (10-1) occupied the first semifinals slot while Adamson University (8-3) is assured of at least a playoff for a Final Four spot.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 28-26, 23-25, 21-25, 17-25, loss to Ateneo last week while the Maroons officially eliminated University of the East from contention with a 25-9, 25-22, 25-19, win.
UP eyes its second straight win and a repeat over NU, which they surprised in straight sets, 25-19, 25-20, 31-29, in the first round.
