De La Salle University sets its sights on an eighth straight Final Four appearance.
De La Salle’s character and morale will get a litmus test Sunday in its first game without injured hitter Cyd Demecillo when the Lady Spikers gun for a spot in the Final Four against struggling Adamson University in the 78th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
The 4:00 p.m. duel will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
Outside hitter Demecillo sustained a right knee sprain in the Lady Spikers’ 18-25, 25-12, 25-18, 25-21, win over University of the Philippine last Wednesday. Her MRI test is negative of any major damage but the Season 78 UAAP beach volleyball champion will need at least a two-week rest.
Even without Demecillo, DLSU is favored to get its ninth win in 11 games when the Taft-based volleybelles face a team emotionally and mentally drained with the departure of head coach Sherwin Meneses midway in the season.
Ara Galang, Kim Dy, Mika Reyes and Kim Fajardo are in the forefront of DSLU's drive for an eighth semis stint in a row.
The Lady Falcons are in a three-game losing slump in the second round for a 3-7 win-loss.
Another loss will send Adamson out of the contention for a Final Four spot for the second straight year.
The San Marcelino-based squad bowed down to University of Sto. Tomas in a painful five-set loss, 21-25, 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 12-15, last Wednesday in interim coach Domeng Custodio’s second game with the team.
Adamson was defeated by DLSU in straight sets in the first round.
