IN CASE YOU FORGOT: The FEU Tamaraws are reminding everyone why they’re the defending champions

“FEU. Dapat abangan lang nila.” - FEU team captain Eric Giganto
After what can be called a slow start, the defending UAAP Men’s Football champion Far Eastern University Tamaraws are back in form, and the rest of the league should take notice.
The Tams have picked up four straight wins, but more impressive is that they kicked off the second round by making sure that no team would go unbeaten in Season 78.
In their second round opener, the Tamaraws handed De La Salle their first loss of the season, thanks to a conversion from rookie sensation Rico Andes. They followed that up with a 4-0 destruction of the league’s top team, University of Santo Tomas, also ending their eight game unbeaten streak.
DLSU and UST were the only two teams to hand FEU losses this season, and for skipper Eric Giganto, their wins against these two teams were a form of payback for the first round.
“Ganun na din siguro, kasi sa kanila din kami na talo, kaya gusto namin gumanti, gusto talaga namin ipakita kung ano yung tunay na FEU. Hopefully ngayon bumabalik na kami sa laro namin dati.”
More than payback though, what’s become more evident is the fact that the Tamaraws have gone back to their winning ways, with three of their last four wins coming in dominant fashion. Giganto says that they’ve rediscovered the qualities that made them so dangerous in the last three UAAP seasons.
“Siguro yung dedication namin, yung focus namin, yung support ng mga coaches, yung school, kasi alam namin na defending champions kami, wala naman masyadong nawala and malalakas yung dumagdag na rookies, so kung ano yung ginawa namin last year, tutumbasan namin this year. Dun kami humugot ng lakas,”
Giganto, now on his last tour of duty for the Tamaraws, also believes that he, more than anyone, has to step for the Green and Gold. “Since last playing year ko na, kailangan ko talaga magpakita.”
Last season’s league-leading scorer left off with a stern warning to the rest of the league:
“FEU. Dapat abangan lang nila.”
