Bulldogs play Tams to book a Final Four seat
National University attempts to reserve a spot in the semifinals against another Final Four hopeful Far Eastern University.

Surging National University goes for its fourth straight Final Four stint against another team hoping to book a ride to the next round in Far Eastern University on Saturday in the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Already assured of at least a playoff for semis seat and riding the momentum of a two-win streak, the Bulldogs are looking to formalize their entry to the Final Four and join last year's championship series tormentor Ateneo de Manila.

Start of the hostilities is slated at 10:00 a.m. and will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.

The Bulldogs are currently in second spot with an 8-4 record. Another win will give NU a Final Four spot – possibly the third semis ticket if Adamson wins over University of the East in the curtain-raiser at 8:00 a.m.

A victory will also give NU a chance to vie for a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage.

“Malaki pa ang chance namin para sa twice-to-beat. Talagang ‘yun pa ang hahabulin namin and hopefully maipanalo namin ‘yung last two games pa namin,” said NU coach Dante Alinsunurin.

The Bulldogs pushed University of Sto. Tomas on the brink of elimination in NU’s 25-27, 25-19, 25-18, 25-21 win last Wednesday.

As an added motivation, NU wanted to avenge its 19-25, 25-22, 24-26, 20-25, loss to FEU at the end of the first round.

The Tams bowed down to University of the Philippines in a painful 25-21, 25-27, 21-25, 25-21, 14-16, defeat that saw the Maroons tie FEU at 6-6 record in fourth to fifth spots.

If FEU wins, the Tams will move a step closer in securing at least a playoff for a semifinals ticket and in the process formally eliminate UST (4-8) in contention to narrow the Final Four spot contest.
