Lady Eagles look to clinch semifinals twice-to-beat bonus

The Lady Eagles are on a three-game winning streak heading into Saturday's match-up with the Lady Falcons.
Ateneo de Manila University targets a Final Four twice-to-beat advantage in the Lady Eagles’ return to action after the Holy Week break facing the Adamson Lady Falcons on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Coming off a three-game winning streak, the semifinals-bound Lady Eagles clash with the Lady Falcons in the main game at 4:00 p.m.
The duel will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
Ateneo shares the top spot with another Final Four qualifier and toughest rival De La Salle University with identical 9-2 win-loss slates.
Even after losing sophomore middle hitter Maddie Madayag to a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament tear, the Lady Eagles showed no sign of slowing down as Ateneo dismantled University of Sto. Tomas, 25-20, 25-18, 25-18, last March 19.
The loss of Madayag put graduating middle Amy Ahomiro back to her natural position to pair with Bea De Leon and support top hitter back-to-back Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez, Jho Maraguniot and setter Jia Morado – the same lineup that showed the way for the blue and white last year in an impressive sweep of Season 77.
Madayag is scheduled to undergo operation on her knee injury on Saturday.
The Lady Eagles as well as the Lady Spikers are already assured of at least a playoff for a Final Four spot after National University (6-6) won over University of the Philippines (7-5) last Wednesday.
But Ateneo should always keep their guards up especially against a team that has nothing to lose.
The Lady Falcons are already out of contention with a 3-8 slate at seventh spot with Adamson just looking to play the spoiler’s role.
