The DLSU Lady Spikers look to clinch the first twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.De La Salle University goes for the first Final Four twice-to-beat advantage Saturday in a showdown with listless University of the East in the 78th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Lady Spikers secured their eighth straight semifinals ticket with a 9-2 win-loss record they share with bitter rival and two-time defending champion Ateneo de Manila.
Game time is set at 2:00 p.m. and will air live over ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD Channel 166 and via livestream on sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.
DLSU is coming off a straight sets domination of the Adamson Lady Falcons, 25-13, 25-11, 25-18, two weeks ago before the Holy Week break to clinch a semis spot and inch closer to a semis incentive.
But with the race for the last two Final Four slots getting more complicated, DLSU and Ateneo benefitted from the last playdate’s results.
National University’s win over University of the Philippines last Wednesday pushed the Lady Spikers and Lady Eagles a win closer for a Final Four seat.
Outside hitter Cyd Demecillo’s return to action could be a game time decision after sustaining a right knee sprain in DLSU’s four-set win over UP last March 16.
Even without Demecillo, DLSU is still a dangerous team with graduating players Ara Galang and Mika Reyes with heady playmaker Kim Fajardo and middle Majoy Baron.
The Lady Spikers swept the Lady Warriors in the first round and are looking to hand UE its 12th straight loss and 52nd in a row since Season 74.
