HEART. NU clinched their fourth straight Final Four berth via a 15-4 run to wrap up a straight sets win.
The National University machine was well on its way to a straight sets win on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Somewhere along the way, however, the machine stalled and they found themselves behind by six points.
Following the technical timeout, team captain and setter Vince Mangulabnan got the Bulldogs rolling again with a 15-4 tear that finished off their three-set conquest of Far Eastern University, 28-26, 25-18, 25-20.
Proving that the heart of the champion still lies within them, Mangulabnan and his mates secured themselves a slot in the Final Four in the UAAP 78 Men’s Volleyball Tournament. “Sana magtuloy-tuloy. Nakikita ko na rin kasi yun kumpyansa ko sa mga bata,” coach Dante Alinsunurin said in his post-game conference.
Staring at a 10-16 deficit in the third set, Alinsunurin settled his wards as Mangulabnan spearheaded the surge that wrapped up their ninth win in 13 games. The team captain wound up with 31 excellent sets and paved the way for Madz Gampong and Francis Saura to score 17 and 11 points, respectively.
For the Tamaraws, Jude Garcia fronted the effort with 11 points. With only one playoff berth remaining, their drop to 6-7 in the standings has opened the door for De La Salle University and University of the Philippines.
