Matches on Saturday, April 2 (McKinley Hill Stadium)
3:00 PM – UST vs. Ateneo (Men’s)
5:30 PM – DLSU vs. Ateneo (Women’s)
8:00 PM – DLSU vs. NU (Men’s)
Two teams coming off losses will try to bounce back against a couple of surging teams as University of Santo Tomas takes on Ateneo, while De La Salle meets National University in UAAP Men’s Football action, Saturday afternoon at the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig.
After going unbeaten in their first eight matches, the UST Tigers were handed their first loss of the season, courtesy of the defending champion FEU Tamaraws. As Tigers mentor Marjo Allado said after the loss, he wants his boys to forget about the setback and set their sights on bouncing back against their next opponents.
Those next opponents for UST happen to be the Ateneo Blue Eagles, who are currently riding a three-game winning streak, most recently a 7-0 drubbing of Adamson. With matches against the league’s bottom-two teams out of the way, the road begins to get a lot tougher for Ateneo, starting with a UST team that’s motivated to bounce back.
In their first round meeting, UST got the better of Ateneo, 2-1, courtesy of goals from AJ Pasion and Darwin Busmion.
Another team that’s looking to do some serious bouncing back is the De La Salle Green Archers. After finishing the first round unbeaten and at the top of the standings, the Green Archers have dropped their last two outings to FEU and UP and have crashed into the fourth spot. Standing in front of the Green Archers however, is an NU team that’s hungry for their first post-season berth.
The NU Bulldogs have definitely kept themselves in the mix after starting the second round with two straight victories. But like the Blue Eagles, the Bulldogs’ schedule only gets tougher from here on out, as they’ve already faced the league’s two lowest seeds. The tough road to a playoff berth begins with a DLSU team that needs to bounce back.
In their first round matchup, NU and DLSU battled to a 1-1 draw, with Gerald Layumas scoring early for the Archers and Paolo Salenga finding the equalizer just a few minutes later.
In the women’s division, it’s a rivalry matchup, as the top-seeded DLSU Lady Archers take on third-seed Ateneo Lady Eagles.
