The Blue Eagles get their playoff bonus and crush La Salle's Final Four hopes with one big sweep.
Ateneo's title defense is going smoothly as the champs dominate their way to another twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four.
The Blue Eagles officially clinched their playoff bonus after eliminating rival La Salle with a sweep 25-14, 25-20, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 78 men's volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena Sunday.
Fresh from their Holy Week break, the champs showed no signs of rust to win their ninth straight game and push their record to a very impressive 11-1 card.
"I'm happy mga players ko nag-deliver, kahit nag-break kami yung mga players physically, emotionally, mentally focus pa rin," head coach Oliver Almadro said.
"Hindi pwede sabihin nag-break, kinalawang. Hindi pwedeng sabihin yun eh, final stretch na ng UAAP so kailangan talaga focus, determined and all-out sa ginagawa."
Ateneo jumped on the Green Spikers early before showing their championship composure to finish the sweep.
The defense also shined for the Blue Eagles to the tune of 11 blocks and shutting down La Salle's Raymark Woo.
Woo, who broke Mark Alfafara's UAAP record by scoring 39 points in a previous outing against Adamson, finished with only five this time.
Two-time MVP Mark Espejo and Josh Villanueva led the Blue Eagles with 11 points apiece.
Cris Dumago paced the Green Spikers (4-8) with 11.
