Val Jurao (29) scored a brace to help FEU charge past UE for their sixth straight win
For the second time this season, Val Jurao scored a brace, while rookie scorer Rico Andes added a conversion of his own to lead the defending champion Far Eastern University Tamaraws past the University of the East Red Warriors, 3-0, Saturday afternoon at the McKinley Hill Stadium in Taguig.
Jurao got the Tamaraws off to an early start, scoring the opener just five minutes in.
FEU leading scorer Andes also got himself into the stat sheets twenty minutes later, doubling the Tamaraw lead and knocking in his eighth goal of the season.
With five minutes to go before halftime, Jurao struck again for his second goal of the afternoon, and a comfortable lead 3-0 lead heading into the break.
UE became a bit more aggressive in the second frame of action, getting a couple of their shots off but couldn’t come up with a finish.
FEU also had some good chances to add on to the lead, but to no avail.
A couple of scary moments late in the half, as Andes needed to be helped off the pitch with an ankle inury, while Jurao had to be stretchered off as well, but looked to be fine on the bench moments later.
Make it six straight for the defending champion Tamaraws, and according to Paolo Bugas, it’s all thanks to the motivation of head coach, Master Kim Chul Su.
“Minomotivate kasi kami ni Master Kim, na kaya talaga namin lahat ng team so kami naman, mentally, nag-aadjust kami and sa training ginagawa namin yung part namin, nag-eextra effort game every game, so may results naman. Yung ineexpect namin na results, nakikita naman. “ Bugas told ABS-CBN Sports following the match.
The win helps FEU reassert themselves at the top-spot with 23 points, while the winless Warriors remain at the bottom with one point.
