The Lady Tamaraws get the job done and assured themselves of at least a playoff for the Final Four.
For all the brilliance shown by the young Lady Maroons this year, they can't seem to solve the mystery of Morayta.
Far Eastern University took control of solo third in a tight race for the Final Four after a comeback 17-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 victory over UP in the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament at the San Juan arena Sunday.
With their eight win against five defeats, the Lady Tamaraws assured themselves of a playoff for one of the two remaining slots in the postseason.
Former best setter Gyzelle Sy ran the FEU offense to perfection with 54 excellent sets as the Lady Tamaraws totally dominated the secondh half of the matchup.
The trio of Bernadeth Pons, Toni Rose Basas and team captain Remy Palma feasted as a result and finished with a combined 49 points.
The loss was a huge blow on UP's Final Four chances as the Lady Maroons are now tied with NU for fourth place with identical 7-6 records.
"Nakalusot na kami sa isa, yung sa Adamson na lang," head coach Shaq Delos Santos said as the Lady Tamaraws now hold their fate. "Hopefully makuha ulit namin."
FEU only needs to beat the Lady Falcons to clinch the Final Four without any complications.
After taking a dive in the opening set, the Lady Tamaraws flipped the switch as Pons and Basas took turns punishing the UP defense with a barrage of combination plays and heavy serves.
Pons led the team with 19 points while Basas and Palma added 15 apiece.
FEU established an 11-point lead in the fourth set and were never truly challenged again on its way to a third straight win.
The Lady Maroons meanwhile, dropped a second straight game and will now need to beat a UST team with nothing to lose in order to have a chance at a playoff.
Nicole Tiamzon led three UP players in double figures with 12 points.
