By the Numbers: Dramatic Finish
Brace yourselves for a dramatic finish in the UAAP.

The elimination round of UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament is down to three game days and the Final Four cast may might as well be decided on the last day.

Far Eastern University, University of the Philippines and National University all want to join Ateneo and La Salle in the playoffs but only two get to do so.

There are a lot of possible scenarios that could take place and we'll try to sort them out in this latest edition of By the Numbers.

1

Number of wins needed by the Lady Tamaraws to clinch a Final Four berth as the number 3 seed.

FEU can join Ateneo and La Salle without all the hassle of playoff games and waiting for the result of the remaining assignments of UP and NU if the Lady Tamaraws could beat Adamson on Wednesday.

1

Number of games remaining for National University and University of the Philippines.

Both tied at 7-6, a win by the Lady Bulldogs (vs. La Salle) and the Lady Maroons (vs. UST) mean that they assure themselves of at least a playoff for a Final Four slot.

If one of them loses, FEU automatically gets a Final Four spot, and they need the other team to lose as well in order to set up a do-or-die match with a record of 7-7.

4

Number of years the Golden Tigresses missed the Final Four.

The second winningest team in the UAAP, UST missed the playoffs anew after losing to NU in five sets last Saturday, dropping its record to 5-8.

5

Number of straight games Kim Dy has led La Salle in scoring.

Dy continues her late-season tear for the Lady Spikers, finishing with 14 points against UE as La Salle clinched twice-to-beat advantage.

The middle blocker-turned-utility spiker is La Salle's leading scorer in its current five-game winning streak.

52

Average excellent sets by Gyzelle Sy for FEU in its two wins after the Holy Week.

The problem of inconsistency looks to be solved in Morayta and their former best setter is at the forefront of an offense peaking at the right time.

Sy had 49 excellent sets in a four-set win over UST. She was actually better against UP as she recorder 55 excellent sets in another four-set victory. Impressive.
