Despite being a no-bearing game, two-time defending champions Ateneo De Manila University did not hold back in sweeping a winless University of the East squad.
The Lady Eagles continued to build momentum ahead of their rematch with rival De La Salle University after a 25-15, 25-13, 25-11 victory over the Lady Warriors in the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena Wednesday.
Ateneo moved to a league-best 11 wins against only two defeats as the Lady Eagles position themselves for the number one spot in the Final Four.
The victory by the Katipunan-based squad also sent the Lady Warriors to their 58th straight defeat datinng back to Season 74.
"Good game for us, hopefully the win we got today give us confidence for the next game. I hope all of us will be ready," Valdez said, already setting her sights on rival La Salle on Sunday.
Valdez had a workout against UE, finishing with an ultra-efficient 17 points in just 63 minutes of match time highlighted by 14 attacks and two blocks.
Jhoana Maraguinot once again played Robin to Valdez's Batman and wound up with 13 for Ateneo.
The Lady Eagles wore down the Lady Warriors starting from the opening set on their way to a fifth straight victory.
Shaya Adorador scored seven to lead UE as the Lady Warriors dropped to 0-13 for the season.
