Defending champion FEU didn't lose but the Tamaraws saw their six-game run snapped after a draw against NU.
National University came close but in the end, no team can still stop Far Eastern University from its late-season surge.
Well technically that is.
The defending champion Tamaraws and the Bulldogs settled for a scoreless draw in their second round round matchup of the UAAP Season 78 men's football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Field in Ateneo Thursday.
Despite their six-game winning streak coming to an end with the draw, FEU remains on top of the crowded standings with 24 points with a 7-3-2 (w-d-l) record.
The Bulldogs, coming off a loss to De La Salle in their previous outing, remain on the outside looking in for the Final Four with 16 points.
Nico Macapal had the cleanest shot in the 83rd minute to put NU on top but his attempt on goal went wide.
The Tamaraws sure felt the nerves during that play as they almost gave up the winning goal.
"Akala ko mai-isahan pa kami dun. Masyadong delikado, di namin matatanggap yun kung naka-goal samin," FEU star striker Rico Andes told ABS-CBN Sports.
For NU's part, the Bulldogs can only go back to the drawing board to try and figure out how they can breakthrough the playoffs.
"Training uli, sayang lang hindi nag-materialize," NU head coach Lelem Laranas said. "Ready naman ang mga boys, hanggang hindi natatapos ang UAAP, makikipag-bakbakan pa din kami."
The first meeting between both squads back in round 1 also ended in a draw, 2-2.
