Can the NU Bulldogs keep their Final Four hopes alive, or will they fall victim to the red-hot FEU Tamaraws?
Matches on Thursday, April 07 (Moro Lorenzo Football Field)
2:00 PM – NU vs. FEU (Men’s)
4:00 PM – UP vs. Ateneo (Men’s)
The race for the Final Four in the UAAP Men’s Football tournament heats up, as National University takes on defending champions Far Eastern University, while round two of the Battle of Katipunan takes place as University of the Philippines meets Ateneo at the Moro Lorenzo Football Field in Ateneo de Manila.
Fresh off a hearbreaking loss to DLSU in their last outing, the NU Bulldogs will be looking to bounce back and regain the momentum that they had coming into the second round. With the frenzy for for a spot in the semifinals, the Bulldogs, who are currently outside looking in at sixth place, are most likely facing must-win scenarios from here on out.
It won’t be an easy out however, as they take on the hottest team in the league right now in the FEU Tamaraws.
The Tams have put together an impressive six-game winning streak, dating back to the last few days of the first round. Their recent surge has put them at the top of the standings and have primed themselves for yet another postseason appearance.
In their first round matchup, NU and FEU battled to an exciting 2-2 draw.
Also riding an impressive winning streak of their own, the Ateneo Blue Eagles have put together four straight wins and are playing with – in the words of skipper Mikko Mabanag – heart. This display of heart was most evident in their comeback win over UST over the weekend. Currently in fourth place, the Eagles will need to keep their streak going if they wish to remain in the running.
The UP Maroons have also found themselves surging, going unbeaten in their last three outings, which included a 2-0 win over DLSU. Most recently, the Maroons blew past UE, 3-0 to put themselves at solo second place.
The last time that UP and Ateneo met, the Maroons came away with a 1-0 win.
