"Syempre lagi naman nandun yung gigil, nandun yung excitement." --- Alyssa Valdez on playing La Salle again.
Look for Alyssa Valdez to be a picture of calmness against rival La Salle even if the two-time MVP is dying to beat the Lady Spikers.
While the champs' attention is already partly in the Final Four, the focus is on La Salle, trying to avenge their first round embarrassment.
"We're happy na we have a twice-to-beat advantage but every game we have to stay focused bago kami tumawid," Valdez said.
And the Lady Spikers are the only team left to conquer before Ateneo shifts into playoff mode.
The reigning two-time MVP admitted that they are excited to play La Salle again but she's more cautious now to play Ateneo's brand of "Happy" game rather than succumb to Taft's tactics that led to a bad performance in round 1.
"Syempre lagi naman nandun yung gigil, nandun yung excitement," Valdez said. "But we really have to stay calm and stay happy inside and outside the court."
"Kahit anong team, a win is a win," she added.
Heading into round two of the UAAP's most famous rivalry, Valdez thinks adjustments on their part will lead to a more competitive matchup.
"We have to improve on the little things, the details inside the court, para may mabigay kami sa laban ng La Salle," she said.
