The Lady Maroons are assured of a Final Four playoff after beating UST in four sets.
They are not in the Final Four just yet but the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons made sure they get at least a playoff for the number 4 spot.
The Lady Maroons completed a major comeback against the also-ran UST Golden Tigresses, 17-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-20, in the UAAP Season 78 women's volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena Sunday.
Tied at one set apiece, State U had an amazing fightback to steal set 3 that took the fight completely out of UST.
Down 12-18, UP unleashed a 10-0 run capped by Isa Molde to take a 22-18 lead before cruising to a 25-20 win and a 2-1 advantage.
UP also overcame and early 7-0 run by the Tigresses in set 2 to force the tie after UST jumped the gun in the opening set.
With the win and a final regular season record of 8-6, the Lady Maroons are assured of at least a playoff for the fourth and final spot in the postseason.
UP makes the Final Four outright if National University loses to La Salle on April 13.
"Late na namin na-realize na di naman ganun kadali na makapunta ulit sa ganitong sitwasyon next year, buti na-realize and kahit papaano naka-bawi," head coach Jerry Yee said.
"Nakaka-inis minsan pero kailangan tiisin eh, ang dami na nating chances kumbaga yung sagot nila yes and no pa rin buti na lang nanaig yung yes," he added.
Super rookie Molde led the Lady Maroons with 23 points including the game-clinching hit. Marian Buitre added 12.
For UST, EJ Laure carried the offense to the tune of 20 points while Carmela Tunay scored 12 in her final UAAP game.
Jessey De Leon, who also played her final UAAP game, added eight.
The Tigresses finished the season with a 5-9 record and missed the Final Four for a fourth straight year.
