Just because Maddie Madayag is out for the rest of Season 78 due to ACL injury does not mean that she's no longer part of the Ateneo Lady Eagles.
Sporting double crutches and her right leg still heavily wrapped, Madayag was present at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday to support her team as they battled rival De La Salle University.
Her trip ended up being worth it as the two-time champion Lady Eagles got even with the Lady Spikers after five grueling sets, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16, 21-25, 15-5.
"I want to cheer the team naman kasi the past few games hindi ako naka-watch," Madayag said outside the dugout after the Ateneo win. "Gusto ko din mag-support sa team kahit hindi ako naglalaro, nandoon pa din ako.
The sophomore Davaoena also gave an update on her knee that underwent surgery earlier this month.
Aside from a torn ACL, the middle hitter said that she also has a torn meniscus but fortunately, her MCL only suffered a sprain.
Her recovery timetable is 8-10 months.
"Makakalaro naman siguro ako sa [Season] 79," she said.
Despite such a devastating injury, Madayag has no ill feelings and said that everything happens for a reason.
"May reason naman si God sa lahat. Everybody keeps on saying na I'm gonna come back stronger, which is I believe naman," Madayag said.
Her trip back home to Davao during the Holy Week just before undergoing surgery also helped her cope with the stress of having the injury.
"Time with family at yun nga, para mag-refresh kasi sa Manila, wala naman ako masyadong kasama," she said.
Madayag tore her ACL in practice last month. Before the injury, she averaged 7.3 points in 10 games for Ateneo.
