TWO BIRDS IN ONE STONE. The Maroons clinch the Final Four and eliminate FEU after they beat Adamson in four sets.
University of the Philippines made sure there will be no extra playoffs in the UAAP Season 78 men's volleyball tournament.
The Fighting Maroons completed the Final Four cast after a pulsating 31-29, 18-25, 25-18, 25-22, win agains the now-struggling Adamson Falcons at the San Juan Arena Wednesday.
Statu U officially clinched the fourth and final postseason berth after finishing the regular season with a record of 8-6. The win also eliminated Far Eastern University despite the Tamaraws winning against UST earlier in the day.
The Tamaraws were hoping for an Adamson victory to force a do-or-die matchup with the Maroons.
After surviving a marathon opening set, the Maroons had to weather a fierce Adamson comeback in the fourth set to book their first playoff appearance since 2011.
The Falcons closed to within one point, 19-20, after a 10-point deficit. A net violation put UP at match point and the Maroons finished it off for the win, 25-22.
Wendel Miguel came up huge for UP, scoring a game-high 21 points while Alfred Valbuena added 20.
Michael Sudaria was the high man for the Falcons with 14 points.
Adamson, competing for the top two spots just a couple of weeks ago, suffered a collapse and will now face National University in the Final Four as the no. 3 seed.
The Bulldogs hold twice-to-beat advantage.
In the other Final Four matchup, UP will take on defending champion Ateneo Blue Eagles.
