Gayoso scored goal no. 9 against La Salle.
After a disappointing loss to UP last week, Ateneo has now won back-to-back games against Final Four contenders in the UAAP Season 78 men's football tournament.
Katipunan's latest victim was rival La Salle as the Blue Eagles scored a 1-0 decision against the Archers at the Moro Lorenzo field in Ateneo Wednesday.
Ateneo beat defending champion FEU, 1-0, in its last outing.
With the victory over the Archers, the Blue Eagles tied the Tamaraws for second place with 24 points.
The win also assured that the top 4 will stay the same at least for today regardless of the result between UST and NU later in the second game. The Tigers are running fifth with 19 points while La Salle dropped to fourth with 23.
"Ang importante lang naman samin sa araw na to is we need to get the three points so para sakin I'm happy with the result," coach JP Merida said.
Rookie sensation Jarvey Gayoso scored the game's lone point as he found the goal at the 17th minute in the first half.
Gayoso now has nine goals for the season.
Ateneo had several clean attepts to build the lead but failed to convert. La Salle won in round 1, 3-1, last February 7.
