The motivation behind UE ending a 58-game losing skid
Coach Francis Vicente couldn't help but cry tears of joy after UE broke a 58-game winning streak.

The UE Lady Warriors had another motivation to win their final game of UAAP Season 78.

Aside from trying to end a 58-game losing skid dating back to the year 2012, the Lady Warriors had to win in order to keep their mentor.

That's because head coach Francis Vicente was ready to move on if UE had another wasted season under his watch, and after the Lady Warriors finally got their breakthrough, tears naturally came down.

It means that he and the Lady Warriors can continue their journey together towards re-gaining UE's respectability in UAAP women's volleyball.

"Pressure yun para sa kanila eh, if they won't win, alis na ako," Vicente said. "Kasi hindi ako sanay yung natatalo eh. sabi ko 'pag nanalo kayo, nandiyan ako sa tabi niyo' so mangyayari na yun."

"I hope ito yung start nung pagtigil ng losing steak ng UE," he added.

The 58-game losing steak obviously took its toll on the entire team, and now that it's over, everybody gets to have a happy ending for the season.

"Umiyak ako kasi masaya ako dahil natigil namin yung 58-game losing streak tapos straight set pa. Hindi sila bumigay hanggang huli," Vicente said.

For Shaya Adorador, the leading scorer in UE's monumental win, patience finally paid off.

There was also relief on their part and the victory was a culmination of all their hardwork.

"Sobrang saya po, hindi ko alam kung anong pakiramdam eh sobrang mixed emotions," Adorador said who picked up her first collegiate win.

"Alam ko na yung patience may kalalabasan. Alam kong mananalo din kami balang araw, pana-panahon nga lang daw po yun," she added.

And of course, that thing of coach Francis leaving if UE lost a 59th straight game was a big factor too.

"I gave them the taste nung pinaka-malaking pressure para ma-overcome nila lahat," Vicente said. "I just told them na tandaan niyo yung pinagusapan natin, pag nanalo I'll be there, pag natalo I'll say goodbye pero magkikita pa din tayo."

"Sa malls," Adorador chimed in that drew laughter in the San Juan Arena press room.

The Lady Warriors are a happy team now after winning what feels like a championship for the school.

And they deserve it.

Maybe coach Francis treats the entire team for a nice meal at the mall.
