UAAP football: La Salle battles Ateneo; UST clashes with NU
La Salle will try to reprise its first round win over Ateneo in the UAAP football men's tournament.

Standings: UP 27 pts, FEU 24, DLSU 23, Ateneo 21, UST 19, NU 16, AdU 4, UE 1.

Matches today:
(Moro Lorenzo Field)
2 p.m. – Ateneo vs DLSU (Men)
4 p.m. – UST vs NU (Men)

De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University clash as the two fierce rivals try to maintain their spots in the upper half of the table Thursday in the UAAP Season 78 men's football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo Field.

Kickoff is at 2 p.m., followed by another key match up between University of Santo Tomas and National University at 4 p.m. Both games will air live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action channel 23, ABS-CBN Sports+Action HD SkyCable channel 166 and sports.abs-cbn.com/livestream/uaap.

The Green Archers are running third with 23 points, while the Blue Eagles are in fourth place with 21 points, two clear of fifth-running Growling Tigers.

University of the Philippines is now lording the top of the standings with 27 points, while defending champion Far Eastern University, with its disappointing showing in the last two matches, fell to second place with 24 points.

Greggy Yang, who has scored seven goals this season, will lead De La Salle's attack as it tries to reprise its 3-1 win over Ateneo in the season opener last Feb. 7.

Rookie Jarvey Gayoso and Mashu Yoshioka, who tallied eight and seven goals, respectively, will banner Ateneo's offensive game but will miss set piece specialist Mikko Mabanag, who will serve the last of his two-match suspension.

With 19 points, UST cannot afford any result that it would affect its Final Four bid, as striker Onyok Busmion and his gang must elevate their game a notch higher.

The Bulldogs, who are languishing in sixth spot with 16, are also hoping to stay alive to gain semis qualification behind leading goalscorer Paolo Salenga.
