Ronald Batisla-ong scored two goals to keep UST in the Final Four race.
UST barely kept its Final Four hopes alive in the UAAP Season 78 men's football tournament Wednesday.
Emphasis on the word "barely."
Up two scores, the Tigers almost gave up a draw on injury time before surviving a 2-1 decision against also-ran National University at the Moro Lorenzo field in Ateneo.
The Tigers picked up their first victory in the second round and stayed within striking distance of the leaders with 22 points. La Salle, who lost earlier to Ateneo, is running fourth with 23.
"Kailangan talaga namin manalo dito and alam yun ng mga players ko pero hindi ko lang gusto yung last five minutes especially yung injury time," head coach Marjo Allado said referring to the fact that the Bulldogs scored off a Nico Macapal goal in the 93rd minute and almost forced a draw.
"Hindi yung focus [and] concentration eh, pero yung fitness. Bumaba yung fitness dito," Allado added. "Tapos yung last eight minutes including injury time walang nagsasalita masyado."
The Tigers opened the scoring early as Ronald Batisla-ong found the goal in the 16th minute.
UST then went up 2-0 after Batisla-ong scored again at the 54th minute of the second half.
The Bulldogs, who started this season firing, missed the Final Four anew with 16 points so far.
NU was actually eliminated even before playing UST due to La Salle losing to Ateneo in the first game.
UST also beat NU in round 1, 3-1.
