The Falcons force a winner-take-all after taking down NU in the Final Four.
Adamson picked a perfect time to soar.
After a disastrous second round that saw the Falcons lose their grip on a top two spot, Adamson University forced a knockout game after beating the NU Bulldogs, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-22, in the Final Four of the UAAP Season 78 men's volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena Sunday.
The no. 3 seed Falcons erased NU's twice-to-beat advantage to schedule a winner-take-all match with a finals date with defending champion Ateneo at stake.
Team captain Michael Sudaria broke a 22-all deadlock in favor of Adamson late in the fourth set as the Falcons pulled off a hard-earned victory, 25-22.
"Sa akin prayer," head coach Domeng Custodio said. "Pangalawa, ngayon lang ako nagkaroon ng kumpiyansa masyado sa player ko, sabi ko sa mga bata di baleng matalo basta lumalaban."
"Excited ako eh, hindi ko akalain. Siguro pati mga bata hindi nila akalain basta naglaro lang sila. Wala naman imposible eh bilog pa din ang bola," Custodio added.
Dave Pletado led four Adamson players in double figures with 16 points while Jerome Sarmiento scored 14. Sudaria added 13 for the Falcons.
The Bulldogs, who clinched the no. 2 seed with a little help from Adamson's late-season collapse, looked good after taking the opening set, but it was all downhill from that point.
Madzlan Gampong carried the fight for NU, scoring 20 points in the defeat.
The winner-take-all match is scheduled on Wednesday and the Bulldogs are in their second straight Final Four knockout game after beating UST in Season 77 as the no. 3 seed.
Back in Season 76, the then top-seeded Bulldogs beat Adamson in the Final Four en route to the UAAP title.
