Injured Adamson setter Ramirez speaks up after semis loss

Adamson setter Karlle Nico Ramirez could only watch in pain sitting on the bench while resting an ice pack on his left shoulder.

Without the Falcons’ main setter, Adamson lost its offensive direction and National University capitalized.

The Bulldogs finished off the Falcons, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-23, Wednesday in a do-or-die match for the right to face the defending champion Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles in the 78th UAAP men’s volleyball best-of-three Finals.

The pain of losing a match stuck on the bench according to an emotional Ramirez was more excruciating than his bruised left collarbone.

“Kaya siguro ako napaiyak kasi gusto ko rin lumaban kasama sila,” said the fourth year playmaker, who had 32 excellent sets before getting escorted to the bench midway in the third set.

Ramirez sustained the injury after hitting a panel monitor while trying to save a ball.

“Akala ko ang layo ko pa kaya hinabol ko,” said Ramirez, who briefly came back in the fourth frame before calling it a day.

Adamson head coach Domeng Custodio sacrificed the offense of Bryan Saraza to fill in for Ramirez but the graduating hitter failed to deliver.

Despite exiting the season with a loss and an arm sling, Ramirez vowed to come back strong in his last year next season.

“Babalik ako next year. Next year ako babawi sigurado ‘yan,” he said.
