GROUNDED EAGLE. Matt Nieto will need some time to heal up from the hip injury he suffered at the opening of the 2016 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament.
Ateneo de Manila University can breathe a sigh of relief – their starting point guard is alright following a scary fall he suffered last Saturday at the opening of the 2016 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament.
“It’s nothing serious. Wala namang fracture so I will be better in a couple of days,” the Blue Eagles’ pointman told ABS-CBN Sports on Sunday.
Late in the fourth quarter of their loss to the University of the East, Nieto found himself spinning in the air while trying to save possession for Ateneo. Unable to break his fall, his right hip crashed to the floor and he laid there for a few minutes before being helped up by teammates.
Team physicians attended to his right hip at the bench until deciding that the second-year player needed to be brought to nearby Cardinal Santos Medical Center. That was where he stayed for the rest of the night as his injury was being examined.
The former UAAP Juniors champion said he left the hospital at 12 midnight. While he is walking normally, he admitted there is still discomfort in the bottom right part of his body in saying, “Medyo mahirap gumalaw. I can walk normally, but of course, may pain pa rin.”
