DON'T SLEEP ON US. No one will be taking Adamson lightly with multi-titled mentor Franz Pumaren calling the shots.

De La Salle University is the consensus team-to-beat in the upcoming UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament, according to the head coaches themselves.

The sleeper squad, however, is an entirely different matter.

Asked which team was the darkhorse in the tournament, University of the Philippines coach Bo Perasol said candidly, “I believe no one will pick UP, so UP.”

The response drew laughter from who were in attendance. Much of that, however, had to do with the timing of Perasol’s statement.

The Maroons’ mentor spoke right after three coaches in a row said that Adamson University was the darkhorse.

Following Franz Pumaren’s (Adamson) answer of Ateneo de Manila University and Aldin Ayo’s (De La Salle University) answer of University of the East, the Soaring Falcons were selected as sleepers by all of Nash Racela of Far Eastern University, Eric Altamirano of National University, and Boy Sablan of University of Sto. Tomas.

Then after Perasol’s candid remarks, Ateneo’s Sandy Arrespacochaga also mentioned Adamson as the darkhorse.

Indeed, the coaches were only recognizing Pumaren’s track record as a multi-titled mentor. And with a much-improved Pape Sarr and Jaydee Tungcab as well as top recruits in Jerrick Ahanmisi and Rob Manalang, the Falcons could truly take flight this season.
