Franz Pumaren is in Adamson to make sure the Falcons' basketball program is headed to the right direction.
There is mystery surrounding the Soaring Falcons for UAAP Season 79.
Since the arrival of five-time champion head coach Franz Pumaren, the vibe around Adamson University changed.
Rival coaches no longer think thay the Falcons are automatic wins in their respective schedules, in fact they consider Adamson as a dark horse for the new year.
As an opening act for Season 79, the Falcons get to prove their dark horse description as Adamson takes on the motivated University of the Philippines.
With Pumaren now calling the shots, moral victories no longer count for Adamson and the young Falcons get an early test in the Maroons.
"I hope na we erase the idea na just competing, almost winning, we're happy. No, we're here to make sure that we'll compete from the opening buzzer to the finall buzzer," Pumaren said.
With the Falcons struggling to maintain their status as a Final Four contender in the last couple of seasons, Pumaren was handed the keys to Adamson with hopes of reviving the program.
And after a better than usual preseason, now is the time to show what the Falcons have learned.
"Slowly we're picking up. Sa akin lang, I'm just here to make sure the program is gonna work, we're in the right direction," Pumaren said who is making his UAAP return after his final stint with La Salle almost a decade ago.
Adamson plays the first game of the new UAAP season against the Fighting Maroons Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum.
