DANCESPORT. UP reigned supreme in yet another dance event.
Ballroom Dancing is yet to become an official competition in the UAAP, but the University of the Philippines is wasting no time in staking their claim to it.
The UP Ballroom Formation Team claimed the championship in both Latin-American and Standard Ballroom categories of the inaugural UAAP Ballroom Competition on Saturday inside the University of Sto. Tomas campus in Espana Boulevard, Manila.
The Diliman dancers were clear winners in the two contests with a tally of 92.48 in Latin-American and 94.3 in Standard Ballroom.
Moving to the grooves of the likes of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name,” UP showcased the same innovative form that has turned them into a dynasty in Cheerdance and Streetdance.
Home team UST settled for second in both categories as well with a score of 91.66 in Latin-American and 92.1 in Standard Ballroom.
Rounding out the winners in the two contests were Latin-American category third-placers University of the East with 84.42 points and Standard Ballroom second runners-up De La Sale University with 87 points.
Ballroom Dancing is a demonstration sport in Season 79, but the league is hoping it could follow in the footsteps of Cheerdance and Streetdance.
