Storylines are starting to take shape this early in the calendar year.
Week 2 of the UAAP Season 79 men's basketball tournament is in the books and some storylines are starting to take shape this early in the calendar year.
La Salle of course is number 1 as prized big man Ben Mbala finally flexed his huge biceps with his first signature performance while the NU Bulldogs are also right up there on top.
Defending champions FEU Tamaraws are finally on the board and the young guns who shined last week were brought back to Earth rather quickly.
Also, hosts UST may not be in so much trouble as we originally thought.
With a busy week done and another busy week in the horizon, let's revisit some of the best in this latest edition of UAAP 79 By the Numbers.
Number of points UST's junior point guard Renzo Subido scored Saturday in the Growling Tigers' win against UE.
The former De La Salle-Zobel star scored his UAAP career-high a season after he suffered a devastating ACL injury.
Subido scored only eight points during the entire Season 78.
Number of points scored by La Salle's Ben Mbala Saturday in the win against UP.
It was Mbala's best performance in his young UAAP career and the towering Cameroonian also grabbed 14 rebounds and shot an incredible 80 percent from the field.
Mbala also earned his first player of the week award while averaging 21.5 points and 18.5 rebounds.
Number of blocks per game for Mbala, NU's Alfred Aroga and Ateneo's Isaac Go so far for Season 79, the league best.
Go, in particular, had five against NU Sunday while only playing nine minutes.
The last time National University started 2-0 for the season.
Season 77 was also the year the Bulldogs won their second championship in school history, breaking a 54-year drought.
Combined points of Ateneo's Aaron Black and Thirdy Ravena, the heroes of the Blue Eaglea opening-day win last week.
The Black-Ravena combo combined for 40 points against UST back in week 1.
