GLASS CEILING. Ben Mbala said we have not seen the best of him yet.
As if he didn’t live up to the hype surrounding him just yet after a 13-point, 23-rebound debut, Ben Mbala did himself one better in his second outing in the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The Cameroonian powerhouse posted a collegiate career-high 30 points and 14 rebounds in just 29 minutes to power De La Salle University into a league-leading 2-0 standing.
Not only that, Mbala also made sure Saturday night was a memorable one both for him and everybody at the Araneta Coliseum with a grand total of three thunderous dunks.
According to the six-foot seven-inch 230-pound center, he was simply exploiting the mismatch he had with the Maroons’ frontcourt. “I feel like the big men of UP were kind of slower so I took advantage by running the floor to make easy baskets,” he said.
Already with an otherworldly physique and the basketball IQ to harness it to the fullest, Mbala’s belief that he has yet maximize his potential s nothing but a scary thought for the rest of the league. As he put it, “I’m still a work in progress. I can’t say that I’m already satisfied with my game.”
He then continued, “I just want to improve and there’s always room for improvement. I think I can still play better.”
