Lady Falcons send statement with domination of Lady Eagles
SPREADING YOUR WINGS. Adamson dominated last year's runners-up Ateneo.

Adamson University wanted nothing more than a convincing victory to announce their contention in the UAAP 79 Womens Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Falcons got their wish granted on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum as they had their way against last year’s runners-up Ateneo de Manila University, 74-62.

Kaye Pingol paced the scoring with 16 points, but it was Jonalyn Lacson’s 15-point, 20-rebound double-double that perfectly captured just how dominant Adamson was. Courtesy of a whopping 71-37 rebounding advantage, they made a living on the inside where they bullied their opponents, 48-20.

In all, the Lady Falcons collared 37 of their own misses and their offensive rebounds already matched the Lady Eagles’ total rebounds. “I give credit to the players for outworking (Ateneo),” a clearly satisfied coach Mike Fermin said after the game.

Still, Adamson only had a two-point lead to start the final frame until they unleashed 14 unanswered points for a 65-49 advantage. From that point, Lady Eagles were only able to come as close as seven.

With the convincing win, the Lady Falcons rose to 2-2. “They played inspired basketball – lahat halos duma-dive sa bola. Talagang nakahanap sila ng motivations,” Fermin said.

For Ateneo, Jollina Go who was the lone bright spot with 13 points. Following their tournament-opening win, however, they have now dropped back-to-back games.

In the day’s other game, University of Sto. Tomas earned their first win at the expense of still winless University of the Philippines, 80-73.
