Teng keeps Player of the Week plum in Taft Avenue
LIVING THE DREAM. Jeron Teng expressed that he is relishing the chance to play for his dream team - the DLSU Green Archers.
Jeron Teng was named the ACCEL Quantum/3XVI-UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week after leading De La Salle University to its finest start in the UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament in 13 years.
The unanimous favorite to win the championship, the Green Archers are now the only undefeated team in the tournament with their fourth consecutive victory last Sunday.
Teng, who is eyeing a second title in his final season, became the second DLSU player to win the weekly honor following teammate Ben Mbala of Cameroon. “Ine-enjoy ko lang (ang last year ko). I’m just living my dream of playing for DLSU,” he expressed.
In back-to-back wins from September 12 to 18 by the Archers, Teng averaged 18 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and one steal.
The former Rookie of the Year tallied 13 points, five boards, two assists, and two steals in an emphatic 100-62 win against University of Sto.Tomas last Wednesday. His best moment, however, came against National University.
In a matchup touted as an early Finals preview, Teng scored eight of his 23 points in the payoff period to fuel the Archers' to a hard-earned 75-66 victory versus the Bulldogs. He also had three assists and two rebounds, just for good measure.
Teng earned the nod over the Adamson University duo of Robbie Manalang and Dawn Ochea and Far Eastern University’s Raymar Jose.
