Lady Archers, Lady Eagles vent frustrations on separate foes
NO SKIDS. DLSU and Ateneo both avoided what would have been their first losing skids in the season.

Both coming off bitter defeats, De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University wanted nothing more than to avoid what would have been their first losing skids in the UAAP 79 Womens Basketball Tournament.

The archrivals got their wish granted on Wednesday at the MOA Arena as the Lady Archers shot down University of Sto. Tomas, 77-67, while the Lady Eagles survived Far Eastern University, 60-56.

Khate Castillo poured in 20 points all while spearheading the 16-0 tear that turned a one-point margin into a 54-38 advantage for DLSU.

It was a welcome win for the Lady Archers following their first setback the last time around. “It’s a good character win. I was worried how the team was going to react after a loss, but they showed character,” a satisfied coach Cholo Villanueva expressed.

Bennette Revillosa added 13 points while Snow Penaranda continued to be everywhere with 10 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds, and four steals to help DLSU get back on track at 3-1.

The bounce back didn’t come that easy for Ateneo who had to endure the very game Lady Tamaraws as well as the ejection of coach John Flores.

Still, Hazelle Yam and Jonette Uy De Ong came through with 14 points apiece for last year’s runners-up who now improve to 2-2.

With their respective losses, the Tigresses and the Lady Tamaraws both dropped to 1-3.
