INTAGIBLES. Kib Montalbo and Mcjour Luib are both hell-bent on delivering two things to their teams - defense and intangibles.

Only two days after he last donned the blue and red of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Mcjour Luib has already moved on to the next phase of his career.

The five-year Knight was behind the bench of De La Salle University for the first time in an official capacity as assistant coach on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Apparently, however, the Green Archers have had a “Mr. Intangibles” long before Luib’s arrival. “Si Kib (Montalbo), steady. He prioritizes defense and intangibles,” coach Aldin Ayo shared.

He then continued, “Then sa offense, he just goes with the flow. Kung ano lang meron, dun lang siya naka-focus.”

Sounds like something Ayo would have said about his court general back when he was with Letran, right?

The one-time NCAA champion pointman has long been known as the Knights’ glue guy who doesn’t stuff the stat sheet, but instead provides impact everywhere else. You know, kind of like what Montalbo delivered in DLSU’s game against Adamson University – 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a whole lot of outstanding defense on both Robbie Manalang and Jerrick Ahanmisi.

Asked about the comparisons, Ayo answered, “(Si Kib) is almost the same as Mcjour.”

He then continued, “Offensively, mas angat si Kib, pero sa depensa, mas malakas si Mcjour.”

For his part, DLSU’s Bacolod native did nothing but admit that defense was how he aims to help out his team. As he put it, “I’m very confident about my shots, pero sa depensa lang talaga ako nagfo-focus.”

Montalbo then went on to say that he has only gotten stronger – in all aspects – since suffering an ACL injury a year ago. “It was actually a blessing in disguise. I thank God for it because I’m stronger now,” he said.

He then continued, “I’m really happy that I’m back on the floor especially with coach Ayo’s system. I really like that pace.”
