Lady Warriors stay second after upsetting Lady Eagles
NICE TO MEET YOU. Love Sto. Domingo and UE sent a statement to the rest of the league at the expense of last year's runners-up.

There is a new contender in the UAAP 79 Women’s Basketball Tournament – and the University of the East just introduced themselves to the runners-up from a year ago.

Love Sto. Domingo remained a force with 18 points and nine rebounds as the Lady Warriors sent a statement to the rest of the league following a 60-50 triumph over Ateneo de Manila University on Saturday at the MOA Arena.

Only ahead by six after three quarters, UE turned it on at the start of the final frame with as Sto. Domingo’s short stab punctuated an 11-5 burst that increased their lead to 53-41. The Lady Eagles again pulled to within six only to see Anna Requiron make good on a three-point play to keep them at bay for good.

“Naguluhan ako sa players ko, pero maganda na nung fourth quarter, nakapag-adjust kami sa offense,” coach Aileen Lebornio said after her wards improved to 4-1.

Tying the Lady Warriors at solo second is still De La Salle University who rode Camille Claro right through Adamson University, 69-61.

Claro scored 14 points while Jamie Roxas and Snow Penaranda chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the Lady Archers were never threatened en route to their fourth win in five games.

With their respective losses, Ateneo and Adamson both fell to 2-3.
