STILL GOT IT.

A dozen days since last taking the court in the UAAP 79 Womens Basketball Tournament, National University still looked very much like, well, National University – the two-time defending champions in the tournament.

Not only leading, but dominating from start to finish, the Lady Bulldogs were merely a mismatch for hapless University of the Philippines in a 74-40 blowout at the MOA Arena, Saturday.

NU only allowed 26 points for all of the first three quarters while scoring 57 points at the other end.

Even with the all-out domination, however, coach Pat Aquino actually said they had to fight back complacency. “Nag-regroup lang kami ng second half kasi parang gusto nila na isang tira namin, lamang agad ng sampu,” he expressed.

Aquino and many of the Lady Bulldogs are coming off a tour of duty for Perlas Pilipinas. The Philippine women’s national basketball team reclaimed the crown in the recently-concluded SEABA.

Still, no wear and tear could have been seen on reigning MVP Afril Bernardino who pounded in a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double. Jack Animam had her own 16 points and 10 rebounds while Gemma Miranda also had 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The easy win improved the two-time defending champions to a still league-leading 5-0.

Meanwhile, University of Sto. Tomas survived Far Eastern University, 65-61, to notch their second win in six games.

With their respective losses, the Lady Maroons and the Lady Tamaraws both fell to 1-5.
