STAR SUPPORTER. Freddie Roach watched the UAAP for the first time.
De La Salle University has been nothing but impressive in the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament – ringing off six consecutive victories to start the season, all in dominating fashion.
Someone who knows a thing or two about dominating has certainly noticed. Freddie Roach, world-renowned trainer of eight-division boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, was in attendance when the Green Archers battled Ateneo de Manila University on Sunday at the MOA Arena.
“I like Notre Dame. I like (the Fighting) Irish. I like green,” the American expressed.
He then continued, “I met the (DLSU) coaches and players yesterday. I like them.”
Roach seated beside sports columnist and DLSU alumnus Quinito Henson. His prized ward, Pacquiao, also has close ties with head coach Aldin Ayo.
The 56-year-old then went on to share that it’s his first time watching the UAAP. “I’ve been to a PBA Finals (game) before. This is my first time in the college level,” he said.
He then continued, “I’m always into college basketball wherever I am in the world. It’s a great sport.”
