Lady Archers hand Lady Eagles third loss in a row
TRENDING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS. DLSU claimed their fourth consecutive victory at the expense of archrival Ateneo who lost for the third time in a row.

Just as De La Salle University is continuing to climb the leaderboard in the UAAP 79 Women’s Basketball Tournament, their archrival Ateneo de Manila University are continuing their downward spiral.

Camille Claro and Khate Castillo were in complete control and the Lady Archers overpowered the Lady Eagles, 67-57, on Sunday at the MOA Arena.

“Our intensity didn’t waver. We were playing with a purpose,” coach Cholo Villanueva said after DLSU’s fourth consecutive victory and sixth overall in seven games.

He then continued, “When we’re playing Ateneo, there’s no other motivation but to beat them.”

On the other hand, Ateneo suffered their third straight setback. Now at 2-4, they look far from the runners-up from a season ago.

Still, the Lady Eagles kept coming and pulled to within 52-55 inside the last four minutes until Claro’s back-to-back hits punctuated the Lady Archers’ 12-5 closing counter.

Claro and Castillo scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, while Snow Penaranda held down the fort with eight points and 16 rebounds to make sure the Taft-based team remained solo second.

Meanwhile, University of the East continued their surprising contention after getting the better of Adamson University, 69-57.

Love Sto. Domingo had yet another double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds to lift the Lady Warriors to an unexpected solo third now at 5-2.

Their latest loss dropped the Lady Falcons to 2-4.
