POSITIVE. Jeron Teng will have his left foot checked on Monday.
Jeron Teng couldn’t have chosen a worse time to miss his first game in the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Undergoing surgery to mend the bone spurs in his left foot just days before the matchup between De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University, the graduating player was unavailable for the first iteration in the season of the country’s most heated rivalry.
Teng didn’t mince words in describing his frustrations to reporters after watching the rivalry game from the sideline. “Siyempre, medyo nainggit ako. Gusto ko sana maglaro,” he expressed.
It comes as good news then that the Green Archers’ captain is optimistic that he will return to action the next time they take the court. As he put it, “Next game, makakalaro na ako hopefully.”
However, Teng was quick to clarify that his sure status is yet to be determined. “Actually, day-to-day basis siya e. Bukas pa lang ako magpapa-checkup,” he said.
The fifth-year forward then went on to say that he just wants to be in perfect health as DLSU try to continue their perfect run. “Since Filoil pa to hanggang yung mga previous games, medyo iniinda ko pa talaga. I just wanna be 100 percent pagdating ng crucial games,” he said.
For his part, acting head coach Louie Gonzales echoed the same sort of hope. “He’ll be gone for a week, pero malakas naman si Jeron e. Kahit nagkaroon ng operation, sana makabalik din kaagad,” he said.
