PLEASANT SURPRISE. First-year player Alvin Pasaol has emerged as a key cog for UE.
The University of the East has been trudging through a dark tunnel thus far in the UAAP 79 Men’s Basketball Tournament.
Fortunately for the Red Warriors, there is a ray of light shining down on them – first-year player Alvin Pasaol.
In the past three games, the recruit from Davao is averaging 19 points, seven rebounds, and one steal – finally making the impact he wasn’t able to early on. Talking about the uptick in his numbers, he said, “Gumanda laro ko kasi full trust ni coach, binigay niya sa amin. Kaya even though nasa baba kami, ‘di kami sumu-surrender.”
He then continued, “Kumportable na ako kaya nakuha ko na laro ko.”
Pasaol was also at the forefront of the final frame rally that eventually ended up as UE’s win number one on Saturday. He, however, deflected all credit, “Ginagawa lang namin part namin sa gameplan ni coach.”
And the emerging player promised the faithful over at Recto that they already have all they need to continue their climb atop the standings. As he put it, “’Di namin kailangan yung iba. Wala na kaming kailangan kundi kami lang.”
