NU sweeps 1st round of girls volleyball
The three-peat seeking Lady Bullpups, behind veteran setter Joyme Cagande, hitters Faith Nisperos and Thea Gagate, are unbeaten in six matches.

National University swept the first round of the girls division with a 23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 victory over De La Salle-Zobel last Sunday in the UAAP Season 79 high school volleyball tournament at the Adamson University Gym.

The three-peat seeking Lady Bullpups, behind veteran setter Joyme Cagande, hitters Faith Nisperos and Thea Gagate, are unbeaten in six matches.

The University of Santo Tomas, playing minus injured middle hitter Aimee Hernandez, bested Far Eastern University-Diliman, 25-17, 25-23, 25-15, to finish second behind NU with a 5-1 card.

The Junior Lady Spikers settled for third spot with four wins and two losses.

In the boys division, defending champion NU overpowered UP Integrated School, 25-11, 25-11, 25-7, to end its first round campaign in first place with a 6-1 card, its lone loss came from the hands of University of the East in the opener.

UST edged FEU-Diliman, 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13, to wound up second in the elims.

Second round of action begins this Saturday at the same venue, with a four-game bill in the boys division starting at 7:30 a.m. to be followed by a tripleheader in the girls side in the afternoon.
