NO SURPRISE: La Salle's Mbala leads UAAP MVP race
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN: DLSU's Ben Mbala leads the statistical points race by a mile.
Coming off a dominant first round, De La Salle University center Ben Mbala, as expected, topped the UAAP Season 79 Men's Basketball statistical points race for the Most Valuable Player award.

The 6-foot-8 Cameroonian registered 95.2857 statistical points after leading the league in scoring (20.7 points per game) and blocks (2.1 per game) while ranking second in rebounds (16.3 per game) and steals (2.1 per game).

Mbala also benifited from La Salle's first round sweep as he earned 105 bonus points from the Green Archers' seven wins.

A far second behind Mbala is Adamson Univeristy center Papi Sarr, who trailed by almost 24 points with 71.4286 statistical points. Sarr led the league in rebounds with 16.6 boards a contest.

Another Green Archer, Jeron Teng, ranked third (56.3333 SPs), followed by FEU's Raymar Jose (54.0000) and UP's Paul Desiderio (53.8571). Adamson rookie guard Jerrick Ahanmisi was sixth (51.8571) followed by the NU tandem of Matt Salem (51.2857) and Alfred Aroga (51.1429).

Rounding up the top ten are FEU's Prince Orizu (48.5714), NU's Jay-J Alejandro and Ateneo Thirdy Ravena (tied with 46.5714 each).

The second round of the UAAP Season 79 men's basketball tournament starts on October 8, Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
