GREATEST ENEMY. Louie Vigil said he and UST have nothing to blame but themselves for their fourth loss in a row.
University of Sto. Tomas got dispatched with ease by University of the East on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
Turning the ball over 32 times, the Growling Tigers surrendered to their opponents a 13-26 advantage in points off turnovers. For reference, the Red Warriors’ margin of victory was 10 points.
Apparently stinging from their fourth loss in a row, it was already the third quarter of the second game when UST filed out of their locker room. Then, team captain Louie Vigil looked downtrodden as he told reporters, “Pag makikita mo naman yung game, we had a lot of turnovers, we missed a lot of free throws.”
He then continued, “Pretty much, kalaban namin mga sarili lang namin.”
The graduating guard was hard even on himself as he was the blame for around 30 percent of their errors. “’Di ko nire-regret yung mga turnover na yun kasi most, coming from drop passes,” he said, talking about the 10 turnovers he piled up.
Vigil was quick to add, however, “I’m not saying na hindi magaling sumalo yung mga kasama kong malalaki, pero nake-credit yun sa akin kung ‘di nasasalo ng kasama ko o nagfa-fumble. I think kaya ako nagkaroon ng 10 turnovers, dahil dun.”
The UST frontcourt of William Afoakwah and Jeepy Faundo merged for four turnovers.
Despite their obvious struggles the Tigers’ captain was adamant that there was still much hope for them. “Technically, may chance pa. Iniisip ko pa rin na kaya naming makapasok sa Final Four,” he expressed.
He then continued, “Magkaroon lang kami ng confidence kasi yung linalaro namin ngayon, feeling ko kulang pa talaga e. Sana ma-resolve namin hanggang ‘di pa huli ang lahat.”
If they are to do so, Vigil had one reminder for his teammates. “Lagi kong pinapa-realize na obstacle lang ‘to. Magtrabaho lang tayo nang magtrabaho, maha-harvest pa rin natin,” he expressed.
And personally, the UST star had one promise to the faithful over as Espana. “Ako yung huling susuko. Every time na magkikita kami ng teammates ko, sinasabi ko sa kanila na wag mawalan ng pag-asa,” he said.
He then continued, “Kaya pa rin kahit nasa bottom kami. Sana mag-respond na yung mga kasama ko.”
