ROLLER-COASTER. Coach Tab Baldwin says Ateneo should expect some more tough losses to go along with some more big-time wins.

For the first time since 2009, Ateneo de Manila University was at the losing end of The Battle of Katipunan last Saturday.

Not only are they now on their first losing skid, the Blue Eagles also became only the second team to fall to the Fighting Maroons during the season.

While Ateneo may be struggling, head coach Tab Baldwin reminded everybody that all of this was simply growing pains for a young squad. “This year is one of those seasons when, sometimes, we are going to surprise people just like with FEU in the first round,” he said, referring to their 76-71 first round victory versus the defending champions.

He then continued, talking about being on the losing end of The Battle of Katipunan, “Then we may have tough nights like (last Saturday) where we didn’t find the solutions and ended up at the wrong side of the ledger.”

The American-Kiwi further urged the faithful over at Katipunan to put the brakes on any panic. As he put it, “It’s going to be that kind of year where we will experience tough losses along the way. I hope that we can squeak some wins and learn from those lessons.”

Baldwin then went on to say that, win or lose, this season was supposed to be a learning experience for the Eagle nest made up mostly of first to third year players. “We are short of experience and basketball knowledge on this team. We are trying to progress as quick as we can,” he expressed.

Only G-Boy Babilonia and Vince Tolentino are the fifth-year players for Ateneo. All others are on their first to third years.
