Cherry Rondina of newly-crowned 79th UAAP women’s beach volleyball champion University of Sto. Tomas wants to extend her sincerest apologies to a pair of fans that felt slighted when she and her partner Jem Gutierrez refused to grant a request to have a picture with them.
The third year Tigresses star said that there was a misunderstanding during that moment and that there was no intention to disrespect their fans.
The incident happened during the break of their best-of-three championship series against Far Eastern University’s Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza heading to the deciding Game 3 Sunday at Sands SM by the Bay.
Personal akong nag-sorry sa kanya kasi nadala ako ng emosyon,” said Rondina after UST clinched the title with a 21-17, 21-10 win in the do-or-die match.
Rondina explained that she and Gutierrez were talking and letting their frustrations about their Game 2 loss out that moment when their fans approached them to ask for a photo with them.
Rondina apologized that they let their emotions overcome them during that moment.
“Siyempre parang ang init pa tapos ako hindi ko nadala sarili ko, hindi ko nadala si ate Jem and sobrang nasira ang laro namin kanina (sa Game 2),” said Rondina, who went on to win the Most Valuable Player award.
The UST player humbly asked for forgiveness for her actions against the two unnamed fans.
