There's no stopping defending champion National University as the Lady Bulldogs stretched its two-year winning run to 40.
Defending two-time champion National University was ruthless in beating University of the East, 92-53, to stretch its perfect run to eight games Wednesday in the UAAP Season 79 women’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Reigning MVP Afril Bernardino came through with 26 points, Gemma Miranda had 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Jack Aminam also had a double-double effort of 15 points and 20 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs, who have won 40 consecutive games dating back from 2014.
The third-running Lady Warriors stumbled to only their third loss in eight starts.
De La Salle stayed within reach of NU, nipping Adamson, 76-74, for its seventh win in eight contests.
Skipper Camille Claro led the way for the Lady Archers with 26 points, while Khate Castillo chipped in 14 points, and Snow Peñaranda produced a double-double outing of 13 points and 17 rebounds.
In other matches to open second round action, Ateneo rout Far Eastern University, 54-39, while University of Santo Tomas fashioned out a 70-62 victory over University of the Philippines.
The Lady Eagles and the Tigresses tied the Lady Falcons in fourth place at 3-5, while the Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Maroons went down to 2-6 and 1-7 slates, respectively.
