Player of the Week Lee proving key to UST's playoff hopes
HEAR ME ROAR. Marvin Lee's strong showings of late have fanned the once dying flames of UST's playoff hopes.

Marvin Lee gave University Sto. Santo Tomas just the tonic they needed to end their losing skid in the UAAP Season 79 Men's Basketball Tournament.

The second-year Growling Tiger had 22 points, three rebounds, three assists, and four steals last Saturday to lead his team to a much-needed 73-69 win over National University.

Lee also buried five out of seven three-point attempts on his way to helping the Espana-based squad end a five-game losing skid in the tournament.

Lee, named the ACCEL Quantum/3XVI-UAAP Press Corps Player of the Week, said UST have been working hard to get back on the win column and improve their record to 3-7. “I was surprised that I hit those shots. We have been working on our shots in practice and our hardwork finally paid off,” he said.

The recruit from Far Eastern University-Diliman actually had a poor shooting game in the first half, going 2-of-8 from the field, but had his morale-boosted when head coach Boy Sablan encouraged him to continue taking those shots in the second half.  “I told Marvin to just take those shots. He has been practicing hard,” Sablan shared.

Lee topped University of the Philippines’ Javi Gomez De Liano and De La Salle University’s Jeron Teng for the weekly citation.

Sablan went on to say that Lee’s contributions are much-welcome for the Tigers as they hope to make a push for the playoffs. “The next assignment will be La Salle (on Sunday) and that’s our main focus,” said Sablan.
